It has been a whole new learning curve for me and quite a huge transition into the fine art photography world.

Little did I know that I had to now call myself an ‘artist‘ and was no longer simply a photographer.  Difficult as it was to make this mind shift and to actually accept the transition I am now completely comfortable with the new title.

But does this mean I am no longer an actors headshot photographer in London? Certainly not as I have a large following of actors who depend on me to give them cutting edge headshots on a regular basis.

Learning The Photography Exhibition Ropes

Learning The Photography Exhibition Ropes

It’s quite an easy statement to make,” let’s have an exhibition” it kind of rolls off the tongue in an easy manner.

You’re sitting around debating the subject of photography and in one of those blasé moments it just slips out.

Then everyone thinks it’s a great idea and before you know it you’re rolling along almost helplessly, caught up in the wave of expectation that is ‘your exhibition’.

What I didn’t realise was how much work there was going to be, I certainly had no idea how much pressure I was going to put myself under either. The big wake-up call was when I finally understood that I knew absolutely nothing about the exhibition and show world.

My intention over the next few weeks is to give an account of the trials and tribulations I encountered whilst preparing my first exhibition entitled ‘Ambiguous Misdirection’. I hope to encourage other photographers and artists to create their own shows and to share the vast amount of knowledge I gained.

I’ll finish this first post with the encouraging news that my first photography exhibition was a great success.

Ambiguous Misdirection Was A Great Success

The exhibition Ambiguous Misdirection that I put on earlier this week was a resounding success.

Once I’d overcome the initial  first-night nerves and the trepidation of being ‘the artist’ on display I settled into a comfortable rhythm of greeting and guiding viewers through the exhibition.

One of the most gratifying things for me was to see people discussing each picture, leaning from side to side to get a different angle, stepping backwards, then forwards to get another view.

As far as I was concerned this was the whole point of showing my work, to promote discussing, to challenge the viewer to explore their imagination and to ask the question ‘what is this’?

I’ll keep you updated on the progress, the updates on the contacts made and the

development of the idea of Ambiguous Misdirection.
